At least Canada didn’t “pull the alarm” on the Swine Flu outbreak.

Here you can find the report issued by the Public Health Agency of Canada from October 5 to October 11, 2008.
In every report since that date, the first paragraph ends like this: “No new influenza outbreaks were reported in week”.

But, for the week November 30 to December 6, the issue reports this: “Three new influenza outbreaks were reported in AB this week, all of which were in schools”.

And there is more: Under Antiviral Resistance, into the same issue, it says: “The NML has also tested 6 influenza isolates (1 A/H1N1, 2 A/H3N2 & 3 B) for oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistance and found that the H1N1 isolate tested was resistant to oseltamivir due to the H274Y mutation”

So, a new influenza outbreak was reported, and a new mutation in AH1N1 virus was detected – which is resistant to Tamiflu, and Canada did nothing to alert the world.

Maybe, because the holidays were approaching, and many Canadians were about to run away from the winter.

Were Canadian Economic Authorities afraid that some countries would do to Canada the same exact thing they did to Mexico?

Did they just decide to wait until another country reaction?

And, after Mexico sent the alert to the world, there were a very odd case of Swine Flu in Canada. It is just the kind of “Don’t look at me” reaction I was talking about last post.

I might be wrong, but it seems too bad. A new Influenza Outbreak did take place by December 6, with a new resistant virus detected, and Canada didn’t say a thing.

Posting online a report isn’t exactly a “pull the alarm” action. It is arrogant to believe that every country in the world should be reading a report, just because it is online.

How many Mexican lives were lost because of that? Every individual that was aware on time of that information, should give Mexico and the world, at least, an explanation.
